PHP5, beta 2 is out. My friend Page, of Vore fame, is getting married this weekend. I'll be there, of course. Might have some pics for you, come Monday.
Possibly the biggest FUD of all time, from (who else) SCO: "The GPL violates the U.S. Constitution, together with copyright, antitrust and export control laws." Wow. What else? Will it rot my teeth? Cause me to gain weight? Does it smack of communism?

Why read the classics? (via rc3.org).
A few more from freshmeat (haven't tested these yet, but they look good): freemind (looks like an Inspiration clone), and rdesktop, a remote desktop protocol client for X windows (woohoo!). Of course, tightvnc is always an option (perhaps a better one).
More work last night on WheatblogApp (I have to get a life). Still enhancing the interface for editing posts and comments. Still shooting for mid-to-late November release of this new (.02b) version. Then I'll start on a new version of Showlister.

More work last night on WheatblogApp. Lots of refinements. Been focussing a lot of attention on the editing interface. I'm trying to make it dead easy to find a post by any method (category, archive, etc) and edit it. I'm also going to make it simple to edit and delete post comments in the same interface. Basically, I want everything about a post on a single page.
Found a few things on freshmeat to investigate further when I have the time: Autoindex Directory PHP Script, php2go (class library), wheeleoyum (toy).

My two-week free trial of knowspam.net expired today, so I took the plunge and subscribed to it. In two weeks, it has spared me 885 spam emails.
Besides laundry and the usual weekend festivities, I spent quite a bit of time working on the next release of wheatblog app, a complete rewrite of the blogging tool I first launched back in 2001. So far, posting, editing, commenting, permalinks, viewing by category, and RSS feeds are working. I just need to tidy some things up (especially in the post management section), track down a few bugs, and work on the documentation. I hope to have it out by mid to late November.

I upgraded my laptop hard drive last year, which left me with the old 6GB drive sitting in my desk drawer. Recently, I purchased an enclosure for it, similar to this one, which lets me use it as a portable USB2 drive. It rocks, especially when I travel (and don't always want to take my laptop).
Added a few sites to the "essentials" section: peder e. horner, sense-datum.org, scottraymond.net, and a fellow Fayetteville citizen, johnwrites.com

Singer/songwriter Elliot Smith is dead. Suicide. More details (and some song samples) from npr.org. Lyrics to my favorite of the songs I've heard by him.
The new ala looks great. The design reminds me a bit of xlab (which is a compliment, though he might not take it that way).

PHP Layers Menu System helps you create dynamic, cross-platform, pop-up menus w/o the usual hassel. Takes a little while to understand the design. But it's worth it.

Understanding the French.
I've been using knowspam.net for over a week now (they have a free, two-week trial) and I'm completely sold on it. In that time, it has blocked over 400 spam messages, which goes a long way to putting the fun back in email. When my trial runs out, I'll gladly fork over the $20 for a year's subscription.

Back from Charleston. Haven't surfed much in days, so not much to link. Put the finishing touches on a new site before I left town. Keep your fingers crossed for me. Big things are in the works.

csscreator.com/css-forum/ might be worth a look if you're tearing your hair out trying to get some bit of CSS to do what you really want.

Dave Barry on telemarketers.
Saw Paragraph 175 last night (official site | imdb). Chilling. Very well done. Guaranteed to make you shake your head and wonder if there is any limit to how evil people can be to one another.

Been out in Charleston most of last week visiting my wife and attending a job fair. Nice flights both directions (Tulsa-Chicago-Charleston and back). That's my excuse for not posting more frequently.
